Prevention of Counterfeit Parts

BEI Electronics (BEI) is committed to preventing the introduction of counterfeit materials into our products. BEI will plan, implement, and control processes, appropriate to the organization and the product, for the prevention of counterfeit or suspect counterfeit materials use and their inclusion in product(s) delivered to the customer.

To achieve this, we will:

  • Use materials that are manufactured by or for the original component manufacturers or authorized distributors.
  • Implement verification activities that include inspection or periodic testing when there is high risk of nonconformities including counterfeit materials. High risk applies to sources that are not franchised for the requested components. Specific activities include two or more of the following, and the completion will be verified through Incoming Inspection, and must be agreed upon by BEI prior to purchase order:
    • Passive Components
      • Measurement/Verification against spec sheet
      • Solderability testing for date codes older than 5 years
      • Presents of Lot Code or Date Code
      • Supplier Cert of Conformance for Traceability back to original component manufacturer

Inspections are based on MIL-STD-105E Zero-Based (C=0). If no AQL is contractually specified, an AQL of 1.0% is required for visual inspection and 10% for functional tests.

    • Active Components (If applicable based on part design)
      • Measurement/Verification against spec sheet
      • Marking Permanence
      • X-Ray Testing
      • Electrical Test
      • De-Capsulation
      • Solderability testing for date codes older than 5 years
      • Presents of Lot Code or Date Code
      • Supplier Cert of Conformance for Traceability back to original component manufacturer

Inspections are based on MIL-STD-105E Zero-Based (C=0). If no AQL is contractually specified, an AQL of 1.0% is required for visual inspection and 10% for functional tests.

  • Utilize procurement controls including the use of approved sources, original manufacturers, authorized distributors, and monitoring of counterfeit materials reporting from external sources.
  • Counterfeit material detection includes awareness of unauthorized copy, imitation, substitution, or modified materials presented as genuine.
  • Inform our suppliers of this policy and hold suppliers accountable for compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents of suspected counterfeit materials reported to BEI.
  • Maintain appropriate processes to isolate quarantine and remove counterfeit materials from BEI’s supply chain and make appropriate disclosures to the proper authorities.
